Rhapsody Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp

Community Hip-Hop Camps

Each year, Progressive Arts Alliance hosts a number of Community Hip-Hop Camps throughout our region.  These dynamic camps are designed to introduce students to PAA’s RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp experience.  This introductory experience allows students to build foundational skills in music, dance, and visual art.  Each year, PAA selects a small group of students from each Community Hip-Hop Camp to attend the invitation-only annual RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp held at the Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare.

Art Forms Taught at Hip-Hop Camp

  • DJing – Learn how to use the turntables and mixer as a musical instrument.
  • MCing – Learn about lyric writing and delivering your rhymes to a beat.
  • Breaking – Learn the basic moves of this rhythmic dance.
  • Graffiti – Learn how to design colorful, letter-based art
We thought the camp was brilliant … with so much negativity about hip-hop music and controversial artists, it is great to see the positive side of this art form, which obviously allows for a lot of self-expression and creativity.— Kelley R., Parent

Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders Since 2002

Since 2002, PAA’s RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp has been inspiring students to develop their creative self expression while building critical 21st century skills in collaborating, critical thinking, communication, and more.

To reach more students with our dynamic arts-integrated education programming, we need support of all sizes to help us build tomorrow’s leaders through the arts.

Why Give?

Your support helps give students meaningful access to a rich and rigorous arts learning opportunity. A significant body of research exists that notes learning in and through the arts provides students with the opportunity to build skills needed for lifelong success.

Through the RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp, students use hip-hop as the entry point for deep learning in art, music, dance, poetry, design, technology, and more.  Your support helps PAA use the arts to build the critical skills needed for tomorrow’s leaders to succeed.

Make a Difference

Contributions of any size help advance the work of PAA’s RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp. The cost to support one student at the two-week intensive camp is $1,000. The cost to underwrite a Community Hip-Hop Camp is $2,800.

Your tax-deductible contribution will help propel the RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer Arts Camp into the future, building on the program’s 16 years of success. Please call 216-772-4722 to discuss your generous donation or donate online by clicking here.

Through the hip-hop camp, my son learned to believe in himself as the artists at camp did. He now brings that confidence to every new undertaking, every class, every team, every performance, every social situation.— Joan M., Parent
